CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin has appealed to the Tamil diaspora in the United States to encourage more American companies to invest in Tamil Nadu.
Stalin said TN has been a favourite destination for US companies, and that 300 such firms have invested in the state. The number of American companies investing in TN has increased in the last three years.
He was speaking at an interactive session with Tamil diaspora in San Francisco on Saturday.The session was organised as part of his visit to the US to attract investments.
“More than 300 American companies have started projects in Tamil Nadu. In the past three years, American companies have increasingly invested in TN. I have come here to invite them personally. I appeal to the Indian-Americans present here to encourage American companies to invest in TN,” he told them. Stalin said renowned American firms have set shop in TN, while pointing out that Tamil Nadu was the second-largest economy in India.
Speaking about the importance of ties between India and the US, Stalin said the India-America relationship is crucial for global welfare.
“The friendship between India and America is not just a bond between the governments but also between people of the two countries. This is a unique aspect of the relationship between the two nations. Tamil Nadu, in particular, holds significant appeal for America,” Stalin said.
He pointed out that many Tamilians hold top positions in American companies. “Indian-origin scientists are at NASA. Bilateral trade has increased threefold since 2000. These are all signs of the growing friendship between the two nations,” Stalin said.
Heaping praise on the Indian diaspora for their growth, Stalin said, “Not every plant or tree would thrive when moved from one place to another. But all of you have flourished despite crossing borders. This is the pride of being Indian and the wealth of America,” he said.
